Then he spots his next "conquest" and makes his move...he approaches her and uses some cheesy pick up line that causes her to groan (or throw her drink in his face...)
I'm referring to pick up lines like these...
"I sure hope you know CPR, because you take my breath away."
"Can I borrow a quarter? [What for?] I want to call my mom and tell her I just met the woman of my dreams."
"Hey, can I borrow a map? I keep getting lost in your eyes."
"Are you religious? Cause you are the answers to all my prayers."
"Sorry lady, but you owe me a drink. [Why?] Because when I looked at you, I dropped mine."
"I'm new in town -- could you give me directions to your apartment?"
"I play the field, and it looks like I just hit a home run with you."
"If I followed you home, would you keep me?"
"Is there an airport nearby or is that just my heart taking off?"
"I was so mesmerized by your beauty that I ran into that wall over there...I'm going to need your name and number for insurance purposes."
You actually CAN use a funny pick up line to approach women, and not all of them are that lame. I'll give you a few examples of pickup lines that I've successfully used to approach women. The key is to follow them up with something more clever (I'll give you some of these "transitions" in a minute).
"Wouldn't we look cute on a wedding cake together?"
"Do you know karate? Because your body is really kickin'."
"What does it feel like to be the cutest girl in the room?"
"You must be a hell of a thief, because you stole my heart from across the room."
(Note: Don't use this pick up line on women who are extremely hot and KNOW it. This one is effective on a girl who is attractive, but is clearly NOT the best-looking girl in the place.)
Now here's the next type of pick up lines. I call these...
Pick Up Lines That Could Get You Slapped In The Face
When you are approaching women, use this last category of pick up lines with extreme caution. While they might get a good reaction (particularly if she's a drunken nymphomaniac), you're equally likely to get hit. (Especially if her boyfriend the UFC fighter happens to be standing nearby.) Use them with caution...
"Do you know what has 142 teeth and holds back the Incredible Hulk? [What?] My zipper."
"That outfit would look great...in a crumpled heap next to my bed."
"Is that a keg in your pants? Because I'd love to tap that ass."
The Reality About Using Pick Up Lines To Approach Women
So are pick up lines something to be scorned? Do successful pickup artists ever use them to approach women and start conversations? I've written several popular books on how to pick up women, and I've taught thousands of guys how to "break the ice" with women and seduce them with effective conversation. And personally, I think pick up lines are usually way too obvious.
I teach a style of approaching women that I refer to as "going under the radar". This means you use a clever, unexpected comment or question to capture her interest and engage her in a conversation WITHOUT signaling that you're hoping to get her into bed. Essentially, you're "breaking the ice" in a way that feels natural and casual.
For example, you might ask for her opinion on an unexpected topic -- one that women are of course going to have strong feelings about.
Opener #1: "Hey, I have to get back to my friends but let me ask you something real quick -- would you freak out if your boyfriend was invited to a bachelor party and you knew there would be strippers at the party? My friend Samantha asked me for my opinion."
Opener #2: "Hey, help me settle a debate I'm having with my friends. How long do you need to be dating someone before you change your status on Facebook from "single" to "in a relationship?" Because my friend Jennifer has been going out with a guy for a month and SHE thinks it's an exclusive thing, but he hasn't changed his "single" status and she's wondering if she should say something..."
These methods of approaching women are especially effective because they're based on what I call "relationship grey areas." Men and women tend to have their own ideas about what's allowed in a relationship, and what is unacceptable. Another example: is it "cheating" if a guy hangs out with his ex-girlfriend socially, without telling his current girlfriend?
When you approach a woman, your goal with the opening line is to get a positive response that makes her want to talk to you further. Here's another line I use to approach women, which always seems to get a good reaction:
"Do I look gay? Because this dude was TOTALLY flirting with me in the bathroom a minute ago. Do you think it's because of my shirt?" (Or, "is it the way my ass looks in these jeans?")
I wouldn't classify those as pick up lines. But does this mean pick up lines are, by definition, a bad thing?
In the past, I have used some of the pick up lines I gave you above -- and because I was able to transition into a fun conversation, I was able to get the girl into bed that night!
It was because I poked fun at the fact that I had USED a pick up line! After delivering it, I followed up with "I know that TOTALLY sounded like a pick up line...but I want to talk to you for a moment and I couldn't think of what else to say. My name's Dean..."
Then from that point, I used my usual methods -- I asked a few "strategic" questions to get her in a fun mindset, and sharing information about herself...I used techniques like "Cold Reads" and "Hypotheticals"...and at all times, I stayed in control of the interaction and guided it down the correct path.
The truth is, you can get away with using a super-cheesy pick up line and actually make women laugh (in a good way). The trick is knowing how to follow it up with something original that makes her want to talk to you.
Or, you can always use this:
"You're so beautiful that you made me forget my pick up line."
(Women always find that one cute and funny!)
